India v New Zealand - ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Semi-Final

Sakshi Dhoni has taken to social media to reply widespread reports by stating that they are exactly what they are being labelled as, simply “rumours”. Reports came out that Dhoni has called a press conference, which has led most to believe that he intends to announce his retirement.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been enjoying a break from cricket, probably his first such voluntary absence from the game for as long a period as two months, in more than a decade, maybe even since his career’s beginning. His hiatus came to serve in the territorial army and do justice to his honorary rank of lieutenant colonel.

However, he had an underwhelming World Cup in England in the summer, or at least that is the opinion amongst the general public. Even though he scored a couple of match-winning knocks to save the team in moments of stress before taking them ever so close to the finishing line in the semi-final, it wasn’t deemed to be enough by the fans.

It’s called rumours – Sakshi Dhoni

Considering the statements issued by some of the selection committee and BCCI members, the veteran wicket-keeper has been considering retirement and the policy would be to focus on the young cricketers now. With the World T20 coming up next year, 21-year-old Rishabh Pant has become a mainstay in the team and has curbed the chances of Dhoni staying as a permanent starter.

Keeping all this in mind, MS Dhoni’s press conference announcement has made most think that the 38-year-old intends to hang up his boots. However, his wife Sakshi Dhoni recently uploaded a story on Instagram with a simple message on a blank background. It simply read, “It’s called rumours!”

While speculation lives on, it probably signals that the former Indian captain will live to fight another day and keep serving the Men in Blue for the time being.
